Eating for the Autumn Season

I hope this crisp Autumn weather finds you warm and well. It is during this time of year that the core power of the plant returns to the roots. This is why some of us highly suggest that you eat based on the seasons, year round. Are you eating foods based on the seasons?

We are now in the midst of Autumn. Eating seasonally can be very beneficial to our overall health. When foods are harvested at its peak, they retain full nutrient and vitamin content. The peak for food during this time of year is in the plants roots. This is the best time to eat your seasonal fall food to receive nourishment from the root of plants. Check out the below list of foods below.

Fruits in Season During Fall:

  • Fruit: Apple, avocados, cranberries, common fig, dates, grapes, lemons, mangos, pears, papayas, pomegranate, squash,
  • Vegetables: Artichoke, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, chili peppers, chives, edamame, green beans, kale, mushrooms, okra, peas, pecans, peanuts, peppers, persimmons, pumpkin, spinach, sprouts, tomatillos, tomatoes, turnips, zucchini 
  • Root vegetables: carrots, brussel sprouts, cabbage, winter squash, eggplants, garlic, beets, potatoes, pumpkin, sweet potato and yams
  • Whole grains: amaranth, basmati rice, brown rice, quinoa, rolled oats and wild rice
  • Legumes: beans, chickpeas, lentils, soybeans,
